You there, God? It’s me, the fattest loser.

December9

Shhh! Don’t tell me. I haven’t seen the finale of The Biggest Loser yet. Week after week, I enjoy the workouts (last chance workout!), cringe at the product placements, fast forward through the yapping and weigh-in suspense, and tear up during the heartfelt stories and pounds shed. With 13.4 million viewers, this show has struck a chord.

That chord sounds to me like a lot of hurting people whom the church has failed.

Silence is peanut butter jelly

November6

My car battery died more than a month ago. We replaced it, but whenever that happens in my car, the radio/CD player doesn’t work. Something about protecting me from car theft. However, I don’t have the time or mental stamina to fix it. That would require finding a number for a dealership that’s not already in my phone, entering those numbers one by one to make the call, explaining my problem and following directions to fix it.

So, my car rides are silent. It’s a meaningful time of reflection, prayer and meditation. It’s become routine; I now depend on that time. For example, every day when I hop in the car at lunchtime to go home, this is what plays in my head, without fail:

DON’T press the snooze.

September10

Mmmmmmmm
Breakfast is my favorite. Especially breakfasts out.

I worked late last night, and the hubs has two days off before he starts his new job Monday. So, we had an impromptu outing this morning. Hear me on this: pineapple upside-down pancake.

There’s a restaurant called Snooze downtown, and that’s where we went. After scouring the menu, looking for a reasonable breakfast that wouldn’t leave me nodding off at work, I tried to order the simple three egg breakfast. But my waiter wasn’t hearing it, and he convinced me to order a Caprese Benedict. And then, he gave us a complimentary pancake. The pineapple one. Sooo good, and I don’t even usually like pineapple.

Yes, I’ve been in a food coma since about 9 a.m.

Bible help?

August19

Does anyone have a good site for searching Bible verses? I used to use biblegateway.com, but it appears that no one has the rights to post any non-King James Version scripture online. This is a day I could use some scripture.

In the midst of my observations, I found the upside to camping! You combine the best of both worlds, camping and home.

Am I a happy camper?

July6

We camped for the Fourth of July. My husband loves camping, and I had never done more than sleep in a sleeping bag in the family room before I met him. This is my second season of camping, which was prompted last year when I moved to Colorado to get married. While my inaugural year brought discomfort and grimy fun, I’m really learning the nuances of wilderness slumber this year:

Recipe swap

December8

When I was younger, I looked forward to lunch, gym, recess or Saved by the Bell, depending on the time of day. Now I look forward to coffee, lunch, tea or … this afternoon’s reward … writing my grocery list.
