Just another Scroggles.com weblog

Ah, yes. The age-old question.

June19

My husband and I discussed what he informed me is an age-old question — how to make a Web site look and act the same in every browser. As usual, the technical jargon was lost on me. But this is how I understand the quandary of computer programming (or at least html language) as it plays out in different browsers: It’s like IE8 is Texas and Firefox is Colorado.

Let’s say someone says:
“We’re going to eat dinner.”
That translates to:
Texas: eating at lunchtime.
Colorado: eating in the evening.

“I’m about to get on to him!”
That translates to:
Texas: I’m about to yell at him.
Colorado: I’m about to climb on him.

“I’m fixin-a’ walk.”
That translates to:
Texas: I’m getting ready to walk.
Colorado: I’m repairing a wok.

I created a Web site and it looks great in Safari and Firefox. But open it in Explorer, and it’s all kinds of messed up. It translates weird. In this case, Colorado, ie Firefox, is way better. Not that I’m saying the Texas twang is all kinds of messed up …

Or maybe it is.
